Geology
Austinvale is one of the Wandoan Deposits. These occur as a
crescent shaped zone extending to the south & to the northwest of
the town of Wandoan. All deposits belong to the Juandah Coal
Measures of Middle Jurassic age. The Austinvale Deposit is located
7 km northwest of Wandoan where it dips gently to the southwest at
1 to 2 degrees. Up to 10 seams have been identified, with most of
them combined to form two thick seam intervals in the central part of
the deposit where an aggregate coal thickness of 12m is present at a
very low overburden to coal ratio of 1.96 cubic metres per tonne of
coal.
