Geology
Collinsville Coal Measures, separated into 'upper' and 'lower' portions
by the marine Glendoo Sandstone member. Seams are folded
around the apex of the Bowen Basin, plunging gently south, with
steeper dips on the eastern limb, and more gentle dips on the
western limb. A series of mainly north-south trending reverse faults,
with throws of up to 35m affect the coal measures and separate
discrete mining areas. Igneous intrusion is prevalent, affecting all
mining areas, with the effects ranging from mild heating to complete
devolatilisation and the formation of natural cokes.
Mining Method Collinsville is an open-cut mine using dragline and truck and shovel
methods for overburden removal.
