Geology
Rangal Coal Measures of Late Permian age dipping up to 5 degrees
to the west. Five coal seams are present: Aries1 - 0.7m, Aries21 -
1.1m, Aries22-Castor -5.3m, Pollux - 2.2m, & Orion - 0.3m. The lower
Aries & Castor seams are combined in the central portion of the mine
to form a thick working section, but split & recombine in various seam
combinations along strike & down dip. The majority of the export coal
is mined from the Aries-Castor group in ML 7459.
Mining Method Opencut mining using draglines and a truck/shovel fleet for
overburden removal.

340 km by rail to the port of Gladstone.
Preparation plant Run-of-mine coal is crushed and sized at site prior to stockpiling and
shipment by rail to port.
